Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 156. The five singles today all entered the chart on September 27, 1969- “Time Machine”- Grand Funk Railroad, ” We’ll Cry Together”- Maxine Brown , “Julia” -Ramsey Lewis, “San Francisco Is A Lonely Town”-Joe Simon and “Was It Good To You”- The Isley Brothers.

505. “Time Machine”-Grand Funk Railroad. Capitol. Rock. Written by Mark Farner. B-Side:”High On A Horse.”  Peaked at #48 and spent 11 weeks on the chart. The first charted hit for Grand Funk Railroad- who would go on to have 19 Hot 100- 9 Top 40 and 2 # 1 hits -“We’re An American Band”- 1973 and “The Loco-Motion” 1974. Mark, Mel and Don- from Flint, Michigan. Grade: B-

506. “We’ll Cry Together” -Maxine Brown. Commonwealth United. Soul. Written by Helen Miller and Rose Marie McCoy. B-side:” Darling, Be Home Soon.” Peaked at #73 and spent 8 weeks on the chart. Maxine Brown and R&B singer had 15 Hot 100 singles from 1960-69- 3 made the Top 40. Grade: B-

507. “Julia” Ramsey Lewis. Cadet. Jazz. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. B-side:”Do What You Wanna.” Peaked at #76 and spent 8 weeks on the chart. Ramsey Lewis had 19 Hot 100 singles 6 made the Top 40- his biggest hit being “The IN Crowd” #5 in 1965. Grade: B

508. “San Francisco Is A Lonely Town”- Joe Simon. Sound Stage. Soul. Written by Ben Peters. B-side:”It’s Hard To Get Along” Peaked at #59 and spent 3 weeks in the Hot 100. The 3rd of 4 Hot 100 singles Joe Simon had in 1969- his biggest came earlier in the year with “The Chokin’ Kind” #13- the last one would be the b-side to this single “It’s Hard To Get Along.” Grade:B+

 

509. “Was It Good To You?”-The Isley Brothers. T-Neck. Soul. Written by The Isley Brothers. B-side:”I Got To Get Myself Together” Peaked at # 83 and spent 5 weeks in the Hot 100. The 4th of 4 Hot 100 singles from 1969 by The Isley Brothers- their biggest hit came earlier in the year “It’s Your Thing” #2. Grade: A-
