Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 155. The four  singles today entered the chart on September 27, 1969- “Ruben James”- Kenny Rogers And The First Edition, “So Good Together”-Andy Kim, “Echo Park” Keith Barbour and “Doin’ Our Thing”- Clarence Carter.

501. “Reuben James”- Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Reprise. Country Rock . Written by Alex Harvey and Barry Etris. B-side:”Sunshine” Peaked at #26 and spent 12 weeks on the chart. Kenny Rogers and The First Edition had ten Hot 100 hits between 1968-72- before the lull in his career before he came back as an easy listening country-pop singer.The first seven singles were top 40 hits by Rogers and First Edition- before their popularity went into decline. Grade: C+

502. “So Good Together”- Andy Kim. Steed. Pop. Written by Andy Kim and Jeff Barry. B-side:”I Got To Know.” Peaked at #36 and spent 9 weeks on the chart.  The second of two Hot 100 singles in 1969 by Andy Kim. He had a top 10 hit earlier in the year with “Baby I Love You.’Grade: C

503. “Echo Park”- Keith Barbour. Epic. Pop. Written by Buzz Clifford. B-side:”Here I Am Losing You’ Peaked at # 40- 9 weeks in the Hot 100. Barbour was a pop singer from New York City- a former member of The New Christy  Minstrels – this was hit only Hot 100 hit. Grade: C

504. “Doin’ Our Thing”- Clarence Carter. Atlantic. Soul. Written by Allyn Lee, Clarence Carter and Clemmie McCants. B-side:”I Smell A Rat.” Peaked at #46 and spent 9 weeks in the Hot 100. Carter had three hits in 1969- his biggest hit was yet to come- 1970’s “Patches” #4. Grade: A-
