AMERICAN TOP 40 REPLAY ON THE 70’S ON 7 TODAY- THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 22, 1977. The fall of 1977 means one thing- Debby Boone’s “You Light Up My Life” was at #1– for ten weeks! A low mark in the history of western civilization without doubt.

Debby Boone…Yikes! It’s soooo bad. Yes, it’s syrupy sweet, sappy nausea inspiring warbling and to add insult to injury she sings it flat! What’s worse, I was 11 years old and had the album. I loved it. I drove my mom crazy by playing it over and over. I’m ashamed, as I should be.
At least it was her only hit! I have the single–now I didn’t buy it my sister did and somehow she abandoned it and it ended up in my singles bin.. not that I would ever play it but I am sure I still have it.
Oh, I have the whole album. Somehow. I’ve acquired several people’s collections so I’m blaming it on them.
that’s your story and you’re sticking to it!
Brickhouse. Fantastic song that I’ll always stop and dance to.
That’s a good one- before Lionel’s ballads took over.
It’s like he became the black Kenny Rogers….
Although I will say I still watch Ruby on YouTube about four times a year at least, just for the memory.
I’m currently listening to “Colors” by the Black Pumas on absolute repeat.
Listen when you have time and let me know what you think.
I have never heard “Colors”- at least I don’t think so- will give it a listen….. didn’t Lionel and Kenny do a song together?.. listened to “Colors”- like it!
Yay! The groove of that song and the way the band is black and white is a big up for me.
I remember “THE KING IS GONE ” it didn’t take them long.
Yes it was like he was gone and then this song popped up- and then the other tributes- none of which were too memorable.
The list is only ok and I’d like to say that I was feeling the Commodores and Barry White tunes back then. Truth be told I was singing my little heart out to Keep It Comin’ Love and On and On. Don’t judge me!
On and On- any song that references Sinatra has to be pretty good.
About half unfamiliar to me. Some goodies in there but a lot of pulp.
There is some good stuff on there. I remember most of it. I was 11. I miss hearing Rita Coolidge.
I liked You Light Up My Life the first 10 times. After that, I wanted to barf. The next song I learned to hate was Babe by Styx.
Babe was awful too–but not quite in the You Light Up My Life league! The first ten times you liked it?
Mostly joking but…I was only 11. 😉
you are excused being 11.
😁😆
Flo and Eddy do a great cover. Hard to match the original.
