Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 127. The three singles from today are entered the chart on August 2, 1969- “Dynamite Woman”- Sir Douglas Quintet, ” By The Time I Get To Phoenix”- The Mad Lads and “In My Room”-Sagittarius.

404. “Dynamite Woman”-Sir Douglas Quintet. Smash. Rock. Written by Doug Sahm. B-side:”Too Many Dociiled Minds” The 4th and final Hot 100 hit single by the Sir Douglas Quintet- their biggest hit was “She’s About A Mover” #13 in 1965. “Dynamite Woman” peaked at #83 and spent 2 weeks on the chart. It is the only single of the four that failed to make the Top 40 by them. Grade: B

405. “By The Time I Get To Phoenix”- The Mad Lads. Volt. Soul. Written by Jimmy Webb. B-side:”No Strings Attached.” The Mad Lads had 3 Hot 100 singles on the pop chart from 1965-69 none of them made the Top 40. This song of course a bigger hit for Glen Campbell and Isaac Hayes. Grade: C+

406. “In My Room”- Sagittarius. Together. Pop. Written by Brian Wilson. B-side:”Navajo Girl.” Sagittarius had some rather well known members coming and going- Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys- producer and son of Doris Day- Terry Melcher, Gary Asher who wrote a lot of Pet Sounds with Brian Wilson [Gary the lyrics} and Glen Campbell. Sagittarius had 2 Hot 100 singles neither made the Top 40- “In My Room” a cover of the great Beach Boys tune- peaked at #86 and spent 2 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: C+

  1. The first song has a Zydeco flavor to it. The second one not bad, but like you said, up against stiff competition with the other versions. The last one is just a little too surreal/psychedelic for me.
