Worried Man Blues Carter Family.jpg

  • THE CARTER FAMILY: WORRIED MAN BLUES: THEIR COMPLETE VICTOR RECORDINGS: 1930: 1995: COUNTRY: GRADE: A+: CD:  The original Carter Family’s recording career lasted from 1927-41 but the majority of their career was short-1927-34. The six albums I listened to today finish up their career and the 9 discs that cover the original family’s career. All good stuff. I do like the first few albums [they didn’t make albums then- 78’s the Rounder albums collect all the 78’s} a little more than the rest but the music is strong from start to finish. In 1936 Sara who had left A.P. finally divorced him and married A.P.’s cousin Coy Bayes- that for the most part ended things but it wasn’t until 1944 that they officially disbanded. Sara also didn’t like what was considered touring at the time. Mother Maybelle Carter continued with her daughters with the second Carter Family generation. The original Carter Family considered along with Jimmie Rodgers the leading pioneers in the history of country music. In doing a little research- I found it kind of head shaking that- the Country Music Hall of Fame which began in 1961- didn’t get around to honoring The Carter Family until 1970. They had some head shaking selections ahead of them- like Tex Ritter and some Nashville executives. Maybe it was because The Carter Family weren’t Nashville insiders and never played the Grand Ole Opry. All Hall of Fame’s seem to be baffling at times. Maybe they weren’t viewed at the time as they are today?
