I can’t even imagine how sad it must have been at Mickey Mantle’s funeral with Roy playing this song at it. It’s a one-in-a million. It reminds me of “When I Was 17” by Frank Sinatra. I remember that Bobby Vinton song and that one reminds me of Bobby Goldsborough’s “Honey,” and both good songs as to twanging the heartstrings.
I remember seeing a clip of Roy Clark singing at Mick’s funeral but I haven’t been able to find it since… also at Mick’s funeral- Bob Costas gave one of the eulogy’s and talked about how he’s always kept a Mantle card in his pocket and how the first game he ever went to The Mick his a home run..
You baseball fans are a dedicated bunch, aren’t you.
Love baseball and music and books.
Better than cocaine, hookers, and the ponies! 😉
My daughter in-laws relative (cousin?) is Matt Wisler. I just looked him up. Those guys can earn a bundle!
I looked up his salary- over half a million this year- which is the minimum. Imagine a job where the least you can make is half a million…. think I will go out back and start throwing the baseball again!…..
So the minimum a major league player can make is half a mil a year? Jeez! No, I can’t imagine a job like that!
I think it’s like 550, 000 minimum.
