- GEORGE HARRISON: SOMEWHERE IN ENGLAND: 1981: ROCK: GRADE: B. VINYL: The big song on this album which was his first one after John Lennon’s assassination- was “All Those Years Ago” which was a hit. George was getting disillusioned with the record industry at this point. The reviews of this album are all over the place but while its not his best work- it has its moments.

- RICKIE LEE JONES: RICKIE LEE JONES: 1979: ROCK: GRADE: A VINYL: The first time I heard “Chuckie’s In Love” on the radio I ran out and bought the album- which didn’t disappoint either. She won the Grammy for Best New Artist. Her boyfriend around this time- Tom Waits. Must Hear Tracks- Chuckie’s In Love, Young Blood, Easy Money, Last Chance Texaco.. really not a bad song on the album.

- BLONDIE: PARALLEL LINES: 1978: ROCK: GRADE: A: VINYL: The first Blondie album I ever bought- and the most consistent one I think. “Heart Of Glass” “Hanging On The Telephone”, “One Way Or Another”, “Picture This”, “Sunday Girl: and the Buddy Holly cover- “I’m Gonna Love You Too” Songs to hear from the album.

- ARLO GUTHRIE: AMIGO: 1976: FOLK: GRADE A+. VINYL: I haven’t listened to every album Arlo has ever made but this has to be his greatest- although his most famous song is “Alice’s Restaurant” and his cover of “City Of New Orleans” which was a hit. This album connects from start- to finish- which is a cover of The Rolling Stones “Connection.”

- TOM T. HALL: GREATEST HITS: 1972: COUNTRY: GRADE: A: CD: Tom T. Hall- The Storyteller. Every once in a while I like to break out some Tom T. The first Greatest Hits is stronger overall than Volume II but both have gems. I enjoy listening to the individual albums. My favorite Tom T. Hall song- “That’s How I Got To Memphis.”
- TOM T. HALL: GREATEST HITS II: 1975: COUNTRY:
Wow. The greatest?
Even greater than The Beatles Revolver…
Am I bad? I don’t think I thought Revolver was the best Beatles album.
But the best Beatles band ever was Revolver. They played the southern college circuit in the ‘80’s and they were fantastic.
Two sets of brothers. Someone who knew of my affection for the band sent me a link of them playing “Let Me Roll It,” and honestly, 30 years later they still had it.
Their version to me is better than Paul’s.
What is your vote for Best Beatles album? There are a lot of different opinions- I have even heard someone say Let It Be.
Let me think about it. I didn’t grow up immersed in Beatle-ness. I guess I was more the Aerosmith generation.
Upon reflection I can’t pick a best one, because they are all so different.
And some, to be completely honest, had too much trite filler.
But magnificent singles? The Beatles were the best ever. 🙂
The Beatles filler? What??
I mean, even John said that. He called it Granny s*** stuff!
John said a lot of things- and often contradicted himself a year or two later- he went through a phase after the beatles where he slammed even his songs…. overall i’d say the beatles may have had ten subpar songs at the most… Maxwell’s Silver Hammer being the worst. IMO
I love early Beatles best probably. Then late Beatles, almost as much as early but some of the later/mid is good, but if the car radio is on scan I might would let it keep scanning.
The middle period- Rubber Soul- Revolver era stuff is their best! My two favorite Beatles albums!
They seemed so normal then.
You know, we have lived in an awesome time, through the apex of a dying almost dead art form, the album.
Yes that is a sad thing. Agreed!
I tried my damndest to understand Rickie. I loved Chuckie. Unique singing style. She was so cool.
Damn good Blondie album.
yes with Rickie you needed that lyric sheet!
She made slurring sound awesome.
