The Sounds of Summer- Day 72 of 95- “Sister Mary Elephant” by Cheech and Chong. Back in the day when I was in school I think for the most part school began the Tuesday after Labor Day. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me but I can remember being depressed on Labor Day because school started the next day. Of course the obligatory assignment that first week back in English/ Language Arts class would be to write an essay on how you spent your summer vacation.Β We didn’t get two months though to complete the assignment. “Sister Mary Elephant” peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974.
I remember how huge “Up in Smoke” was and when Cheech & Chong got airplay. Didn’t they have a music video for one of their songs also, with Cheech in a tutu? lol I was a weed smoker back in those days, and this was twice as funny when high (as was the movie!) I’m sure as a teacher you had to resist the urge to scream sometimes.
Oh there were times I wanted to scream…. that scream on the record is the worst I’ve ever heard. Guaranteed to give a headache…. Cheech and Chong came along at the perfect time in culture.
Have you ever heard Adam Sandler’s song, “Bad Boyfriend”? That’s another screamer song that is funny. Yes, Cheech & Chong did. I remember Cheech having a small part in, “From Dusk Til Dawn” also…
Haven’t heard the Sandler song- at least i don’t think I have…
i’m sure it’s on youtube…. if you listen to it, let me know what you think π
