The Sounds of Summer- Day 60 out of 95- “Every Breath You Take” -The Police. I haven’t done enough of those songs of the summer- that were the big songs of a certain summer- the summer of 1983 there wasn’t a bigger or better song on the radio than The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”- released as a single on May 20, 1983 when I wasn’t listening to it on my radio I had it playing on my Walkman. One of my favorite songs of the decade.  It was the lead single off of The Police’s final album Synchronicity. It went to #1 in the US and the UK and was nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning two.

  1. While “Every Breath You Take” relies on a chord progression that has been used a million times and from that perspective isn’t very original, I dig this song, mainly because of Andy Summers’ cool guitar sound. It’s really the latter that makes it distinct.
