The Sounds of Summer- Day 60 out of 95- “Every Breath You Take” -The Police. I haven’t done enough of those songs of the summer- that were the big songs of a certain summer- the summer of 1983 there wasn’t a bigger or better song on the radio than The Police’s “Every Breath You Take”- released as a single on May 20, 1983 when I wasn’t listening to it on my radio I had it playing on my Walkman. One of my favorite songs of the decade. It was the lead single off of The Police’s final album Synchronicity. It went to #1 in the US and the UK and was nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning two.
Ah, the stalker song. On the other hand – Sting. I know.
I always thought the lyrics were a bit disturbing.
a stalkers theme song.
Oh, but Roxanne…
Doesn’t sound like a summer song – it’s more autumnal.
It was a summer hit…
I know, not criticising your choice, just observing that it doesn’t sound very summery.
I agree..
In a reversal/suggestion/seed planted, thus began my obsession with Sting. 😉 He was at the top of my charts for a long time.
I love that album.
It’s my absolute favorite song of the 1980s, and one of my top 10 all-time favorites.
It is one of those songs I loved the first time I heard it. Great choice for a favorite.
While “Every Breath You Take” relies on a chord progression that has been used a million times and from that perspective isn’t very original, I dig this song, mainly because of Andy Summers’ cool guitar sound. It’s really the latter that makes it distinct.
Sting’s on tour now and we will attend his concert in November. How about you?
I will have to check his concert schedule. Didn’t realize he was on tour. Enjoy!
