Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 53. Today’s singles are the last three that entered the charts in the month of March 1969- March 29, 1969 and none of the three got higher than #95 on the chart. The singles are “I Love My Baby”-Archie Bell and The Drells, “One Eye Open”- Maskman And The Agents with Billy Clark Orchestra and “Somethings On Her Mind”- 4 Seasons.

158. “I Love My Baby” -Archie Bell and The Drells. Atlantic. Soul. Written by Kenny Gamble and Thom Bell. B-side: “Just A Little Closer.” Archie Bell and The Drells an R&B vocal group were formed at Leo Smith Junior High in Houston, Texas. They would have 11 Hot 100 singles with 3 reaching the Top 40 including a #1 with their first hit “Tighten Up” 1968. They had 21 R&B hits in their career. Archie Bell’s brother Rickey Bell was a star running back in the late 70’s at USC and the #1 pick in the 1977 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Bucs. “I Love My Baby” peaked at #94 and spent 3 weeks on the chart. Grade: B-

159. “One Eye Open”-Maskman and The Agents with Billy Clark Orchestra. Dynamo. Soul. Written by Harmon Bethea and Jim Burston. “One Eye Open” was the b-side to “Yaw’ll” which failed to chart. Maskman And The Agents had 2 Hot 100 singles – “One Eye Open” #95 with one week on the charts and the other was later in 1969 “My Wife, My Dog, My Car” #91. Grade: B-

160. ” Somethings On Her Mind”- 4 Seasons. Philips. Pop. Written by Bob Gaudio and Jake Holmes. “Somethings On Her Mind” was the b-side to “Idaho” which would also make the Hot 100. “Somethings On Her Mind” went to #98 and had one week on the chart. At this point in time the 4 Seasons were out of favor- they would make a big comeback in the 70’s when the music changed but in the late 60’s they were definitely ‘squaresville.” In their career The 4 Seasons- had 48 Hot 100 singles with 32 making the Top 40 and 5 #1 hits. I never cared a bit for them. Annoying. Grade: C
