THE BEATLES COVER OF THE DAY-“YESTERDAY’- RAY CHARLES

The Beatles cover of the day is “Yesterday” by Ray Charles. “Yesterday” written by Paul McCartney is one of the most covered songs ever- I have seen various figures but I will go with 2200 different covers. Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Willie Nelson, Marvin Gaye, Neil Diamond are among the artists who have covered it- everyone has covered “Yesterday” from the greats to lame ass artists like Kenny G and his brother Michael Bolton, Liberace covered “Yesterday.” Bob Dylan who once made critical comments about the song- recorded it with the help of Beatle George- but the Dylan version is still unreleased. My favorite interpreter of Beatles songs is the great Ray Charles. Ray Charles could sing anything- he’d get my vote for the pound for pound being the greatest singer of all time. Ray Charles version of “Yesterday: was released as a single in 1967 and went to #25 on the Billboard  Hot 100.

  1. Holy sh**. Where have I been? First that beautiful James Brown cover of “Something,” and now this. Where the hell have I been?! James Brown gave me goosebumps. Now this one actually made me tear up! If I’m not having some kind of breakdown, then I’ve been very, greatly, extremely moved by these songs. Thanks, Hans! 🙂

    • Glad you enjoyed. I had known of the Ray Charles cover but only recently discovered the James Brown- they are fantastic covers.

  2. The Beatles always said that they didn’t care who covered their songs as long as they didn’t try to copy the Beatles. These two featured songsters certainly didn’t copy and recorded very special versions. Great stuff, Hans.

    • Thanks.. Those two were great artists I would have been shocked if they had just followed The Beatles lead on these two covers- they had to put their special touch on them!
