1969 Song of the Day- “Mother Popcorn” by James Brown. “Mother Popcorn {You’ve Got To Have A Mother For Me} Part 1 was released as a two part single by James Brown in June 1969. The funk song was written by James Brown and Alfred Ellis- went to #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and to #1 on the R&B single chart. “Mother Popcorn” was inspired by the dance The Popcorn and was the most successful of James Brown’s “Popcorn” songs that came out during that period which included “The Popcorn”, “Lowdown Popcorn”, “Let A Man Comes In And Do The Popcorn.”

  1. Off Topic… I’m reading Ruth book and about Phil Coyne who saw the last homeruns the Babe hit….in Forbes Stadium. What an incredible guy. I remember reading about him last year or whenever he retired at 99. Hard to believe he was still working at that age.

    • every year they would do a story or two on him locally- they showed him at a game this year- enjoying his retirement. That is incredible.
