Songs I like by Artists I Don’t- “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”- Starship. While I am not a big fan of the original Jefferson Airplane- they were alright- and really shine when compared to the later incarnations- Jefferson Starship and Starship. They became Starship in the late 80’s and maybe it was the state of pop music at the time but somehow they had three #1 hits at that time- We Built This City and Sara both trash and from the movie Mannequin- not a good movie as I recall- came this song “Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now” I am certainly not billing this ‘power ballad’ a classic but unlike other songs by Jefferson Starship/ Starship when this came on the radio I didn’t turn the station. The song was written by Albert Hammond, Richard Hulle and Diane Warren. Hammond said the idea for the song came from his impending marriage to his seven year live in girlfriend. He said that “It’s almost like they’ve stopped me from marrying this woman for seven years, and they haven’t succeeded. They’re not gonna stop me doing it.
Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now would also be on Starships No Protection album also in 1987. At the time- with the single hitting #1 Grace Slick at age 47 became the oldest woman to sing a #1 single in the United States- a decade later Cher would break that record with “Believe.”
Stop email me got police
I also like this song. It’s another one where I prefer the verses way more than the chorus. I watched this video countless times as a kid. I always got a kick out of it
Any song that is compared to We Built This City…has got to sound pretty good.
Ugh. Hate it! Hate it! 🤮
I’d much rather hear Jane or Find Your Way Back.
For years I thought ‘We Built This City” was about Rocky Road.
Wow. This brings me back.
