Songs I Like by Bands I Don’t- “Dust In The Wind.”- Kansas never interested me. They were popular for a short period of time in the late 70’s- early 80-s and then they were more or less like their song- Dust In The Wind. They are still hanging around – probably playing this summer at some shed near you with REO Tricycle and that ilk. I must confess of their seven Top 40 hits I did like one- Dust In The Wind- which became their biggest hit- reaching #6 in 1978. The song was written by band member Kerry Livgren- and the title was taken from the Bible- Ecclesiastes
I reflected on everything that is accomplished by man on earth, and I concluded:
Everything he has accomplished is futile — like chasing the wind.
The only real cool thing about Kansas was the cover of their debut album- the self-titled Kansas with the famous painting of one of my heroes- John Brown with the Bible in one hand and the rifle in the other- by John Steuart Curry.

REO Tricycle! 🤣 That’s good!
I like this, Fire With Fire and, of course, Carry On… I’m a Supernatural geek. 🤓😎
There are 5 songs by them that I really love. Dust in the Wind, Point of Know Return, Icarus, Song for America, and last but certainly not least-Carry On Wayward Son. Like Hinoeuma I’m a huge Supernatural fan. It’s funny that decades after the release of Carry On…, it and the band itself has seen a resurgence in popularity.
I’m with on this one. I have seen them twice, live and they always manage to eff “Dust in the Wind” up by becoming too etherial. If only they’d stay with the album version. As for the album art — one of my personal favs as John Brown is my Great-great uncle on my mothers side.
Oh, to have someone famous in the family tree.
I was really enthused as I had just found a church had a plaque from WW1 with my grandfather’s name on it.
I gushingly told it to the guy I worked with.
He said, ‘Oh, I’ve something like that. There’s a statue of one my relations (Charles Napier) in Trafalgar Square.
Chris
That is cool about John Brown being a great-great uncle. I know I may be in a minority but he is one of my heroes in American history.
