The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is- I Just Want To See His Face.  I Just Want To See His Face was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and is song 4 on side 3 of The Rolling Stones greatest album- Exile On Main St. There is a gospel feel to this song and it is said that Billy Preston who was at the final recording sessions in LA for “Exile” had an influence. Now this is something I would like to have seen- Billy Preston would take Mick Jagger to Sunday services.  Tom Waits has called this song his favorite Rolling Stones recording. This is one of my favorite tracks on Exile On Main St. too. The song does sound like one of those old 30’s field recordings.

Bobby Whitlock who says he played electric piano on the track says about the songs development-

I am playing the electric piano on this song. The whole thing came from Mick asking me about my Dad being a preacher and if I could play a gospel feel. This was the results. I cranked the vibrato on it and started playing, and Mick Taylor started playing the bass and Charlie started playing the drums and Mick Jagger was sing ‘That’s alright, that’s alright, I don’t want to talk about Jesus, I just want to see his face.’ It was recorded at Olympic Studios in London
