Hans Remembers- It was fifty years ago today- General of the Army/ 34th President of the United States- Dwight David Eisenhower’s body had arrived in Abilene, Kansas after traveling across the country on a special train- {it would be the last time a funeral train would be used as part of the funeral proceedings for an American president. } President Eisenhower’s body was interred on this day in a small chapel on the grounds of the Eisenhower Presidential Library. They would bury President Eisenhower as a General of the Army. A standard $80 soldier’s casket was used for the burial and he was dressed in his famous short green jacket along with the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the Navy Distinguished Service Medal ad the Legion of Merit. President Eisenhower is buried just a short walk from his boyhood home.
