1969 Song of the Day- “The Chokin’ Kind” by Joe Simon. The Chokin’ Kind was written by country music songwriter the legendary Harlan Howard [“I Fall To Pieces”,”Heartaches By The Number”, “Busted”, “Tiger By The Tail” and countless other hits}The original version of the song -in 1967 was released by Waylon Jennings- and was a #8 hit on the country charts. This version of The Chokin’ Kind is by R&B singer Joe Simon. It went to #1 in 1969 on the R&B singles chart and #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song would also later be recorded by Miss Ella Fitzgerald and most recently by Joss Stone. The version I will go with- and as much as I love Ol’ Waylon- has to be Joe Simon’s. Joe Simon would have 8 Top 40 hits- his highest charting song being 1975’s- Get Down, Get Down [Get On The Floor} #8.

Thanks, Hans I hadn’t heard this song in years.
