Badge - Cream (European single sleeve).jpg

1969 Song of the Day is- “Badge”- Cream.”Badge” written by Cream’s Eric Clapton and his friend Beatle George Harrison- is on the final Cream album “Goodbye”- and was released as a single. As a single it went to #18 in the United Kingdom and #60 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

Badge was originally untitled- during the transfer for the album-the original sheet music was used to used to produce the liner notes and track listing. The only word that Clapton could make out was in Harrison’s writing “Bridge”-  for the songs “Bridge” section- but Clapton couldn’t make out Harrison’s writing and took it for “Badge”-so that is according to Eric Clapton how the song got its name. Guests on the song- included Beatle George on rhythm guitar and Felix Pappalardi of Mountain- on organ and mellotron. Pappalardi was also the producer.

  1. never knew this song by a name but i know it like the back of my hand. was on an old cream 8track i got from someone that had this, crossroads, brave ulysses, not sure what else on it. may have been the goodbye or maybe a best of? you would know better than me. it’s weird how ec and george could stay friends when they were both so ga-ga over “the muse”

    • sounds like it could have been a best of– yes that is interesting how they stayed friends- I am trying to remember George’s quote- it was something on the order of – he’s rather see her with his best friend than with some jerk. I don’t think he took it well at first though.
