1969 Song of the Day- Aquarius/ Let The Sunshine In- by The 5th Dimension. The song from the 1967 musical Hair. It was written by James Rado, Gerome Ragni and Galt MacDermot. As a single released in March 1969 by The 5th Dimension it became one of the biggest hits of 1969 spending 6 weeks at #1. The song was actually recorded in two cities- in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and later mixed together. The musicians who played on this album- were the famous Wrecking Crew. Aquarius/ Let The Sunshine In- would win The 5th Dimension- Grammy’s for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Group. The 5th Dimension had 20 Top 40 hits from the mid 60’s to early 70’s. They had one other #1 -Wedding Bell Blues. Aquarius/ Let The Sunshine In was heavily played in the 70’s- I haven’t heard it or any songs by The 5th Dimension in years- it always seemed like a period piece to me- taking you back to the 60’s and hippies. Billboard magazine ranked it #66 on their Greatest Songs Of All-Time list.

I’ll be humming this song all evening, and that ain’t a bad thing at all. 🙂
There are a lot worse songs you could have in your head that is for certain! Enjoy!!
“Let the sunshine…”…oh sorry, I was having a psychedelic moment.
Also one of my favorite songs of all time.
It may be cheesy but this song carries some positive vibes. Listened to it on the radio as a kid.
Mesmerizing harmonies for sure.
Awesome song. I liked the 5th Dimension.
