It was fifty years ago today- Wednesday February 26, 1969- the Prime Minister of Israel Levi Eshkol died in Jerusalem of a heart attack. Eshkol had been the Prime Minister of Israel from June 26, 1963 until his death. He was the third Prime Minister in Israel’s history and the first to die in office. He had been in declining health and had suffered a heart attack earlier in the month. His third wife- Miriam who he married in 1964 was thirty-five years his junior and outlived her husband by forty-seven years -dying in 2016.
