THE ROLLING STONE SONG OF THE DAY— IN ANOTHER LAND

In Another Land.JPG

The Rolling Stone Song of the Day is- In Another Land. It is song three on side one of Their Satanic Majesties Request. In Another Land is a rarity- it is the only song that Bill Wyman would sing for the band and one of only three that he would write.  The song is the story of a man who wakes up from a dream to find that he is living another dream. It actually isn’t that bad of a song- Wyman’s singing seems kind of stiff but it is muffled. At the end of the song you can hear Wyman snoring. He had fallen asleep in the studio and Mick and Keith miked him and stuck it on at the end of the song as a joke. Nicky Hopkins appears playing the harpsichord, Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott on backing vocals.  It is odd that the song was released as a single- under Bill Wyman’s name and not under The Rolling Stones. It peaked at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and failed to chart in the UK. It is kind of odd- I have trashed Their Satanic Majesties Request but in listening to the songs individually I am really starting to like it more.

  1. Thankfully Bill wasn’t invited to the mic again. Trying to dress his plain vocal up in that hard tremolo effect just makes it worse….I kind of dig it when the band kicks in but that verse is awful — not helped by the harpsichord which has to be the worst instrument for a pop song. Apart from that….lol
