HAN’S WORST HITS OF THE 90’S–‘ACHY BREAKY HEART”- BILLY RAY CYRUS

Han’s Worst Hits Ever- today goes into the 90’s for this extremely annoying hit- ‘Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus. The song was written by an amateur songwriter named Don Von Tress and was going to be recorded by the Oak Ridge Boys but the Oak Ridge Boys lead singer Duane Allen didn’t like the words ‘achy breaky’ [ neither do I} The song then fell to the Marcy Brothers who recorded it under the title “Don’t  Tell My Heart.” in 1991. Billy Ray Cyrus got his hands on it in 1992 and was recorded for his debut album “Some Gave All” { Forget who wrote this review but one of my favorite one line record reviews was for this album– Some Gave All–the review went… “And some don’t give a damn.”

This song was everywhere on the radio that summer. Hearing it once was more than enough. The single went to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was #1 on the Country music singles chart. Of course not only was the song torture but it seems like everywhere I would go you’d hear someone making reference to the song. And this wasn’t even the worst thing that Billy Ray produced in 1992- we could easily forgive a rotten and annoying song and that ridiculous looking mullet  would eventually go away but what happened on November 23, 1992…

  1. I wonder if the song would have been such a hit if the lyrics and title had been, Ouchy Wouchy Heart! Loving your Worst Of series, Hans. Keep up the good work and Merry Xmas to you and yours.
