The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is “{I Can’t Get No} Satisfaction. The Rolling Stones have had dozens of great and popular songs in their career but their ‘signature song’ without doubt has to be this one “{ I Can’t Get No} Satisfaction. I would also rank it as one of the greatest singles/ songs in the history of Rock N Roll.  It was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Keith Richards claims he wrote Satisfaction in his sleep. They were on tour in Clearwater, Florida. He woke up and had a Philips cassette player by his bed got the song down- and went back to sleep. When he got up he saw the tape was at its end- there was “Satisfaction” and then forty minutes of him snoring. Keith got the riff and the key line from Chuck Berry and his song “30 Days’ “I don’t get no satisfaction from the judge.” Keith played what he had for Mick by the hotel swimming pool and Mick provided the lyrics and we have a true rock and roll classic. The song was recorded on May 12, 1965 and released as a single on August 20th. It went to #1 all over the world- US, UK, Germany, Ireland, South Africa, Netherlands, Austria.. oddly it peaked at #3 in Canada and #6 Belgium.

Satisfaction has been covered by many artists- Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin- and Devo. Back in the late 70’s a local classic rock station every night had a contest – playing two versions of a song and having the listeners vote on their favorite. Devo’s version beat out The Rolling Stones original in that highly unscientific vote. What a laugh.

  1. You know, with songs like “Satisfaction”, it is difficult to conceive of a time when they didn’t exist. I remember when this came out and loved it then as I do now.

    • I must say Satisfaction is a song I’ve heard thousands of times but I am still not tired of hearing it. I am with you on this classic!
