The American Top 40 replay this week on the 70’s on 7 is from the week ending November 22, 1975. Some garbage at the top- Feelings- one of the worst pieces of sewage ever recorded. KC and the dreaded Captain and Tennille in the Top 5. Compared to those songs Barry Manilow doesn’t seem so bad. But there are also some pretty good tunes in the Top 40 this week in 1975. A variety for sure but overall not a good week in my opinion.

Hmm…I love KC and the Sunshine Band and I like the Captain and Tennille too. (I’m proud of KC…Captain and Tennille? Not so much, i.e., “Muskrat Love”.)
The Top 10…omit Silver Connection and Morris Albert and I think you have a solid block. The next block is better with the terrific “Nights on Broadway” and the even better “Eighteen with a Bullet”. A lot of schlock in this Top 40, no doubt.
From the Top 40’s I have heard from 1975- not the strongest year for pop music of the decade- but had its moments.
The O’Jays’ “I Love Music” is one of my all-time favorite songs. I was heavily into Disco back then, so liked K.C. & the Sunshine Band, and also loved “Fly Robin Fly” – though I now think it’s a boring and mediocre song. I positively loathe Neil Sedaka’s “Bad Blood.” Hearing it’s like nails on a chalkboard to my ears, similar to how you feel about the Captain & Tennille lol.
It’s a strange mixture of eras to me and at least a few of the artists/groups are represented by last gasp efforts. Feelings is right up there with Seasons in the Sun. Add Fox on the Run to that list also 🙂
An interesting album or double album would be ‘The Worst Sounds of the 70’s’
There ya go. You’ve got a few songs for it right there. Get your playlist together and see if you can get it printed 🙂
