It was fifty years ago today- November 22, 1968- a great day for lovers of music- The Beatles released their only double studio album- The Beatles- known forever by it’s all white cover as The White Album- it is the more highly acclaimed album released on this date then and now and rightly so it was a masterpiece. There was another great and overlooked album released this date in the UK- it wouldn’t be released in the US until January 1969 and that was The Kinks- The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. The White Album went to #1, The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society didn’t even make the charts. It sold only 100,000 copies. This goes to show that greatness at times has nothing to do with record sales. Over the years though The Kinks album has gained steam and is recognized as one of their greatest albums [it is my personal favorite Kinks album} Both of these album together- yielded no hit singles by the way.
I see my friend Introgroove- has written over night on both of these albums and after reading his thoughts on both albums- I can’t better them and I agree with his comments so I will just direct you two his two posts- the first one on The Beatles “White Album” and the second on The Kinks The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society. I hope to listen to both albums again today on their anniversary.
attached below Introgoove’s comments on The White Album and The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society.
