The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is If You Need Me. If You Need Me was co-written by Wilson Pickett in 1963 but also recorded by Solomon Burke- who ended up having the bigger hit with it- #2 on the R&B singles chart. The Rolling Stones released it on their 5X5 EP in the UK and in the US on 12X5 in October of 1964. The Stones had recorded the song at Chess Studio in Chicago. Ian Stewart’s organ and the guitars of Keith Richards and Brian Jones get the song going and Mick Jagger keeps Solomon Burke’s gospel feel to the song. Of the three versions The Stones version is my favorite- it has a more energy.
