The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is – You Can Make It If You Try. You Can Make It If You Try is on The Rolling Stones self-titled debut album in the UK. It was written by Ted Jarrett – it was written for R&B singer Gene Allison in 1957. Jarrett had success as a songwriter with It’s Love Baby which was a #2 R&B hit for Louis Brooks and his Hi-Toppers and also wrote a country hit for Webb Pierce in 1955- Love, Love, Love. Jarrett wrote “You Can Make It If You Try” after being dumped by his girlfriend. The Stones version is faster than the original by Gene Allison. The Allison version is very gospel influenced.
