The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is- Can I Get A Witness. Can I Get A Witness is a cover of a Motown tune written by the famous Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier- Holland and was a hit in 1963 for Marvin Gaye reaching #22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not only would the song be covered most famously by The Rolling Stones but also by The Supremes, Dusty Springfield, Lee Michaels and Elton John performed it in 1985 at Live Aid. At least in my opinion this is by far the weakest song on the debut album- it seems to me an odd choice and also something that was just an album filler. Nothing stands out at all about The Stones version of the song.

  1. It’s not a bad take, though it’s obvious it was early days for The Rolling Stones. Looking at the track list from the U.K. edition, I think my favorite tunes from this album are Route 66, Little By Little and Carol. The version of the latter on the Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out live album is a killer. Of course that came out six years later in 1970 and featured Mick Taylor, probably their best line-up!
