It was fifty years ago today- October 14, 1968 the U.S. Department of Defense announced that 24,000 U.S Army and U.S. Marines were being sent back to Vietnam for second tours in the ongoing war.  Nearly 550,000 American troops would be in Vietnam in 1968. The year would be the most expensive in the Vietnam War with the US spending 77.4 billion dollars. It would be also the most expensive year in the war for the lives of Americans- 16, 592 Americans would die in Vietnam in 1968, 27,915 South Vietnamese and 200,000 communist forces. Sad.
