- THE VELVET UNDERGROUND: LOADED: 1970: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The Velvet Underground’s 4th album in four years. Main songwriter- Lou Reed left the group right before the albums release and that was basically the end of the group. The album was called Loaded because of Atlantic Records request that the album be ‘loaded’ with hits. In a perfect world it would have been. I hear three hits right off the bat- Who Loves The Sun, Sweet Jane and Rock&Roll. This is the most commercial album of their four but like the other three it didn’t sell- but the group influenced a lot of other musicians.
- THE BEACH BOYS: PET SOUNDS: 1966: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Some of the best albums of all time-came out in 1966- I think 1965-66 were the greatest years for music. Pet Sounds, Revolver and Blonde On Blonde all came out within 5 months of each other. Pet Sounds makes many lists as the greatest album of all time- and almost always in the Top 5 of any listing you see. Much of the Brian Wilson is genius talk- centers around this album. It is a classic.
- VAN MORRISON: MOONDANCE: 1970: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The first new Van I bought was Wavelength- then I got Astral Weeks and Moondance- on first listens I liked Moondance over Astral Weeks- it is a more assessable album- and it is a fantastic album but of course it didn’t take long and I got into Astral Weeks- clearly Van’s greatest album. Moondance would be on the Van Mount Rushmore.
