The Beatles Song of the Day is Here Comes The Sun- written by George Harrison- it is the first song on side 2 of Abbey Road. Over the last 42 years since I became a Beatles fanatic Here Comes The Sun has always been up near the top of my favorite Beatles songs list. I can recall when I heard it first- it was before I really paid much attention to music but just months before I came down with Beatlemania. It was right before the baseball season began and NBC-TV was doing a season preview and as the show went off they played this song. I didn’t know who did it. When I got the blue album that fall and heard it- “Yes that is the song I heard that I really loved.” George wrote this in early 1969 when Apple’s problems were taking up a lot of The Beatles time- one day George decided to skip all the Apple business- and went to Eric Clapton’s house for a break. It was turning spring- and George was walking through the garden with one of Eric’s acoustic guitars and wrote Here Comes The Sun. George said “It was such a great release for me simply being out in the sun, the song just came to me”- it is one of his best. A much covered song by other artists- my favorite version is by Richie Havens. George Harrison: lead and backing vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, harmonium, Moog synthesizer, handclaps: Paul McCartney: backing vocal, bass and handclaps: Ringo Starr: drums, handclaps: Produced by George Martin.

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Little darling, it’s been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it’s all right
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
It’s all right, it’s all right

    • Love Havens version and this has always been my favorite George song- always puts me in a good mood…[and I am not a person who likes being in the sun}

    • When does the medley begin? I have always gone from Because on– some of the books have it as Because- some She Came In Through The Bathroom Window- others Sun King…What do you go with?

  1. One of my favorite songs by George!

It also brings back nice memories of my great guitar teacher from almost 40 years ago. He had come up with a beautiful arrangement for classic guitar and taught me how to play it.

Sadly, I don’t believe I still remember how to play it. Plus, I’ve lost a good deal of dexterity in my fingers.
