The Great One- Roberto Clemente made history on this date in 1956 when he became the only player to ever hit a walk-off inside the park grand slam home run when he hit the 9th inning inside the park grand slam against the Cubs Jim Brosnan to give the Pirates a 9-8 win at Forbes Field. Clemente in his career would have ten inside the park home runs- 62 years later it remains the only walk-off inside the park grand slam in baseball history. I have been watching baseball since 1967- and while I can’t say that Clemente is the greatest player I’ve ever seen- I can say he was the most exciting. His every move was worth watching. He was a player worth the price of admission.
