It was fifty years ago today- July 17, 1968 the animated movie Yellow Submarine premiers at the London Pavilion. The movie was inspired by The Beatles song Yellow Submarine- from their 1966 album Revolver. All four Beatles showed up for the premier- and other famous guests include Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, Donovan, Sandie Shaw, Twiggy, PJ Proby, Clem Curtis and Tony Blackburn. The Beatles really had very little to do with the film itself, their animated characters were voiced by actors. The movie received wide acclaim at the time and over the years since it’s release. The movie featured music from The Beatles-a soundtrack was released with songs from The Beatles and music by Beatles producer George Martin. It was all great fun. I have never seen the movie in a movie theater. It is coming nearby next week- my plans are to go!
