It was fifty years ago today- July 15, 1968- the soap opera “One Life To Live” made it’s premier. The afternoon show would last for 45 years from July 15, 1968- January 13, 2012 on ABC and then briefly on Hulu- April 29 to August 19, 2013. There were 11,136 episodes of the program. The show was set in a fictional suburb of Philadelphia- Llanview.  Some of the actors on the show who went on to bigger things include Tom Berenger, Bryan Cranston, Tommy Lee Jones, Laurence Fishburne, and Hayden Panettiere. The show was created by Agnus Nixon. Are there any soap operas left on television? At one time television during the day consisted of game shows and soap operas. The only one I ever watched was while in college- my roommate would watch The Guiding Light and I did watch it for six months or so.
