  • KANYE WEST: 2008: 808S AND HEARTBREAK: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: There are people who know me well who are kind of flabbergasted when I tell them I like Kanye West’s music. This album I’d put up there on my short list of best albums of the 21st century. 808’s- was a musical departure from his first handful of albums which were more rap oriented- the songs were inspired by his mother’s death-and relationship problems- this was before he met Yoko Kardashian. It was also an album that seemed to fit the times- the economic meltdown of 2008. I am not a fan of auto-tune but it works here. Favorite songs- Say You Will, Heartless, Love Lockdown, Robo Cop, Coldest Winter.

  • VAN MORRISON: ASTRAL WEEKS: 1968: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: My all time favorite album is Astral Weeks or Revolver. Flip a coin.

  • THE BEATLES: PAST MASTERS I: 1988: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The singles and b-sides that didn’t make the regular albums during the first few years of Beatlemania.

Best of: Big Country

  • BIG COUNTRY: THE BEST OF BIG COUNTRY: 1994: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Their peak was their debut album The Crossing- with their only American hit- In A Big Country. The first time I heard A Big Country- it got my attention and I went out and bought the album. I liked the album and I figured they were going to be fairly big- their anthem rock kind of fit in there with the U2’s and The Alarm of the day. They continued to have a nice career and were successful in the UK- but just didn’t reach the heights I expected. 17 songs are collected in this Best Of- Favorite songs – In A Big Country, Harvest Home, Fields Of Fire, Wonderland.

  1. Big Country’s sound was different in the eighties. All I really know is their hit but I liked because they tried something different.
