The Beatles Song Of The Day: “Lovely Rita”

The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Lovely Rita.” “Lovely Rita” is on The Beatles “Sgt.Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” album. The song was written by Paul McCartney. John would say in 1980,”That’s Paul writing a pop song.. He makes ’em up like a novelist. These stories about boring people dong boring things-being postmen and secretaries and writing home. I’m not interested in third-party stories. I like to write about me, cos I know me.” This is a pleasant enough song, nothing earthshattering. John Lennon:backing vocal, vocal percussion, acoustic rhythm guitar, comb and paper/ Paul McCartney:vocal, piano, bass guitar, comb and paper/ George Harrison: backing vocal, acoustic guitar, comb and paper/ Ringo Starr: drums, comb and paper/ George Martin: piano. The song was recorded on February 23,24th, March 7th and 21st, 1967 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin.

Rating “Lovely Rita” on a scale of 1 to 5 ***1/2.

    • I think the differences with Paul and John- were great as far as The Beatles go- Paul more outward looking- John more inward. A fine balance.
