IT WAS FIFTY YEARS AGO TODAY- JULY 2, 1968 — ALLEGED ASSASSIN OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR- JAMES EARL RAY TO BE EXTRADITED BACK TO THE UNITED STATES

It was fifty years ago today- July 2, 1968- James Earl Ray the alleged assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr- was ordered by Frank Milton the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of London’s Bow Street Magistrates’ Court- to be extradited back to the United States where he would stand trial for the assassination of Dr. King which occurred on April 4. The 40 year old Ray was arrested in London on June 8th- a little over two months after the assassination of Dr. King in Memphis, Tennessee. Ray would be sent back to the United States later in July.
