- FRANK ZAPPA/ THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION: WE’RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY: 1968: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: My march through 1968’s most noted albums continues. This is certainly not the most conventional of albums- their third album in three years. It satire’s both left wing and right wing politics, The Beatles Sgt. Pepper and the hippies of the day. This isn’t an album that sinks in on one listen that is for sure. I hadn’t listened to it in some time so I plan on spending some more time with it in the near future. Favorite tracks: Who Needs The Peace Corps?, Let’s Make The Water Turn Black, Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance and What’s The Ugliest Part Of Your Body. The album got to #30 on the album chart.
- FRANK ZAPPA/ THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION: WE’RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY: 1968: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:– I had to play it twice in a row.
- CREAM: WHEELS ON FIRE: 1968:4 1/2 STARS: Cream’s 3rd album in three years. They would release one more and call and end to it. Favorite tracks- Crossroads, Spoonful, White Room, Born Under A Bad Sign and Politician.
- DR. JOHN: GRIS-GRIS: 1968: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The debut album by Dr. John. Atlantic Records legendary president Ahmet Ertegun was reluctant to release it saying “How can we market this boogaloo crap?” The album didn’t chart in the US or England but over the years has found a following. This is my first ever listen it will take more listens but I like it on first listen- the highlight is the final song -I Walk On Guilded Splinters. The album sounds like a soundtrack to a voodoo ceremony. Who would have thought that the Frank Zappa album wouldn’t be the weirdest album I listened to today.
also listened to the replay of American Top 40 from May 29, 1976 on SiriusXM 70’s on 7. It was a very very good week for music.
