Neil Mullane Finn turns sixty today. He was born on May 27, 1958 in Te Awamutu, New Zealand. Neil Finn is one of my favorite songwriters of the past few decades. Finn first came into prominence with his brother Tim in the group Split Enz. Split Enz broke up in 1984 and Neil moved on to form Crowded House. Their most famous song Don’t Dream It’s Over was a huge hit just missing the top of the charts-peaking at #2. One of those timeless songs that will remain popular as long as music is being listened to. Crowded House has only recorded six studio albums over the years- their last being in 2010. Finn has also recorded a couple albums with his brother Tim and a number of solo albums. If you aren’t familiar with Neil or Crowded House I’d recommend the CD Recurring Dream: The Very Best Of Crowded House- a collection of nineteen fantastic songs that should get you hooked on them. My favorite Crowded House song ever- Distant Sun
Finn has been in the news of late along with Mike Campbell- he will be replacing Lindsey Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac on their upcoming money grab.. I mean tour. I can’t blame Finn- he will get a lot of exposure and make a lot of money on this. I would rather see him touring with Crowded House but anyway.
