Fifty years ago today the most acclaimed album in the history of rock music was released in the United Kingdom – The Beatles “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The album would be released in the US the following week on June 2nd, 1967.  The album has been remastered and comes out today with all kinds of extras. I have the deluxe edition ordered can’t wait to listen to it.

Below is a review of the new edition of Sgt. Pepper

  1. It wasn’t just an album it was an event when it was released. Not my favorite Beatle album but probably had the biggest impact.

    • I agree. I wish I had been around when it came out- I was six I have no memory of its immediate impact at the time.

  2. I was 16 when Pepper’s came out. Stunned by the music, the album jacket, the cutouts, and the “O.P.P.” badge on Paul’s shoulder in the centerfold. The OPP were (and are) our Police in Ontario.

    • Easy to forget that at the time that wasn’t the normal thing to get with an album- lyrics on the back too and the album cover itself…a work of art.

  3. While with so much great music The Beatles have released I find it hard to decide which is their best album, if asked, I would go with Sgt. Pepper as well.

My taste has also evolved over time. If you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have said “Abbey Road,” which remains a close second today. Back in the late ‘70s when I started listening to the Fab Four, I was more into their earlier music. Then, my first choice would have been “Help!”
