For the first time since December 1960- years before the Super Bowl was even dreamed of the Philadelphia Eagles won the championship of the NFL in February. The Eagles in 2017 were able to show how quickly you can turn it around in today’s NFL- they went from 7-9 in 2016 to 13-3 in 2017. They won the title without quarterback Carson Wentz who was probably the MVP of the league at the time he was hurt in week 14. They won with a journeyman back up quarterback at the controls-in Nick Foles. They are like every team in the league in need of something and in the Eagles case- LB- TE-RB- WR and the offensive line. Running back Jay Ajayi is injury prone and in the final year of his contract- so I see the Eagles going for some depth at the position- possibly at the end here of round 1.
With the 32nd overall pick in round 1- the Philadelphia Eagles select running back Sony Michel 5’11” 214 3.54 in the 40- Georgia. One plus going into the NFL that Michel has is- he was mostly a back up during his career at Georgia to Nick Chubb- he was used but not overused. He has fresh legs. He has deceptive speed and good receiving skills. Few teams rely one back these days and in Philly needs a second running back. Michel will fill the bill.
The draft is tomorrow- Quinn and I have been doing this mock draft for a few weeks now- and now we are done with it. There will be trades and surprises no doubt that will rock the draft- and our projections but I am interested to see how many we got right and how many first rounders we hit on. Should be an interesting few days.
