The New Orleans Saints were one play from the NFC title game. Everyone saw it. Heartbreaking if you are a Saints fan. Drew Brees wants to play until he is 45. He will need weapons. The Saints probably need to draft his replacement sometime, but since they have not taken a QB in the first round since Archie Manning it is not going to happen here. Uncle Quinn might die of shock if they do.
The Saints have been good on offense. Last year was more run based with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. The passing honestly has not been the same since they traded away Jimmy Graham. Trading away Brandin Cooks did not seem to hurt, but Brees needs a big guy in the middle. Marques Colston filled this role once,
Willie Snead IV (Saints are not matching the offer sheet given to Snead by the Ravens after giving Cameron Meredith to a contract) and Michael Thomas are not really suited for it, but they move the chains. I am guessing they go TE here. there are two 1st round caliber guys – Dallas Goedert and Hayden Hurst out of South Carolina. Each has their upsides and downsides – Hurst is a former baseball player that will be 25 when the season kicks off. Not too many of these guys have had success coming back to football.
So after much debate we will pick Dallas Goedert pronounced (GOD-ert) from South Dakota State. At 6’5″ 255 Goedert should be able to step in immediately and fill a need. He has good hands, but could be a better route runner. He is a raw talent, but if he is willing to listen and learn from certain Hall of Famer Brees, he could have a successful career.
