2018 NFL Mock Draft Pick #18 – Los Angeles Chargers – Da’Ron Payne DT Alabama

Junior NT Da'Ron Payne is set to become Alabama's next ...

I still cannot get used to the idea of the Chargers not being in San Diego. I will come around eventually. The Chargers are in a tough division with Oakland (hopefully on the rebound) and Kansas City. Denver will not be bad for long. The window on Philip Rivers career is closing. It likely is now or never for this current group.

The Bolts have a lot of needs. So does every one else. This could be Roquan Smith or Leighton Vander Esch if they want to go LB. Payne however would hopefully attract some blocking attention away from Joey Bosa. I think Payne is the pick here if he is available.

At 6’2″ 311 Payne will be just what the doctor ordered. He is a great run stuffer, has quickness and explosiveness rarely seen in a DT. He can play nose in a 3-4 or 2 technique in a 4-3. IF of course there is always IF – he can develop some more pass rushing moves he will be a destructive force in the AFC west for years to come. He was not asked to rush the passer often at Bama. He has a lot of upside if placed in the right set.
