  • SOLOMON BURKE: DON’T GIVE UP ON ME: 2002: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Won a Grammy for best contemporary blues album. This was his comeback album. Great selection of songs from some of the greats- Tom Waits, Van The Man, Declan McManus, Brian Wilson, Bobby Dylan etc. Produced by Madonna’s brother in law-  Joe Henry. A very solid effort.
  • THE STEEL WHEELS: NO MORE RAIN: 2013: 3 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Their previous two albums- Red Wing and Lay Down Lay Low- I was really into- this one so so- a revisiting of older songs. It’s ok but the other two knocked me out. This one didn’t.
  • STEVE EARLE/GUY CLARK/ TOWNES VAN ZANDT: TOGETHER AT THE BLUEBIRD CAFE: 2001: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Recorded in 1995- not that long after Steve Earle’s legal issues ended and he was beating his drug habit and towards the end of Townes Van Zandt’s life. This must have been some concert to have been at. Clark and Van Zandt- Steve Earle’s two big teachers and music heroes- Guy and Townes.
