PROJECT 1500 DIFFERENT ALBUMS- DAY 123- 8.1.17

Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in a 12 month period of time. Beginning Month 5 today.

TODAY listened to 4 different albums- 123 day total- 773 different albums. On pace for 2294

  • GUNS ‘N ROSES: APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION: 1987: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Explosive debut album. “Sweet Child O’ Mine” is one of my favorite songs of the second half of the 1980’s. The best selling debut of all time. Recently celebrated the albums 30th anniversary. Welcome To The Jungle, Paradise City, It’s So Easy are gems. Odd- it was released in August 1987 and it didn’t reach #1 on the album charts until August 1987.
  • THE BAND AND VARIOUS ARTISTS: THE LAST WALTZ: 1978: DISC 1: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The Band’s farewell- which was turned into one of the most acclaimed movies in rock history-directed by the great Marty Scorsese. The Band and friends like Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Van The Man, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John.
  • THE BAND AND VARIOUS ARTISTS: THE LAST WALTZ: DISC 2:
  • LEONARD COHEN TRIBUTE: I’M YOUR MAN: 2005: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Soundtrack to the movie- featuring others doing Cohen songs- Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Nick Cave, Teddy Thompson, Beth Orton and others. The movie needed more Leonard.

  1. I really thought that “Appetite For Destruction” was one of THE great debut albums of all time. Still do, although I never felt that the band fulfilled the promise that this record laid the foundations for.

    • At the time it came out- I wasn’t expecting a long and fruitful career with these guys. I am surprised they lasted long enough to make a few more albums before imploding.
