MY LIFE THROUGH MY T-SHIRT COLLECTION- JOHN LENNON- NEW YORK CITY

IMG_1183

John Lennon loved living in New York City because people there let him be. Of course he would be assassinated by a nut job- you can’t blame New York City for that- I don’t think it would have mattered where he had lived for that to have happened.

John was always my favorite Beatle. I was watching a Monday Night Football game that night when late in the game Howard Cosell broke in and said that John Lennon was shot and had died. A footnote to that story- they were on a commercial break when they got the news in the booth and Cosell wondered if they should report the news or not during the game. Frank Gifford told Howard that this was big news and it had to be reported. Odd that Cosell who usually had a strong pulse for ‘the story’ almost blew this one.

I’ve only been to New York City a few times. Interesting place but too many people.  When I was younger crowds didn’t bother me as much as they do now. On a trip to New York City of course I had to go by The Dakota. I wish I hadn’t.  Just made me feel sad.

  1. My wife’s best friend lived across from the Dakota on 72nd Street.
With the lack of security that I observed in that area, to allow strangers to loiter suspiciously around that building, it’s not surprising Lennon would be shot there.

    • At the time who would have thought a rock star would be a target? Crazy. When I was there a few years ago I saw one police out front that was all.
