queen-anightattheopera

Goal is to listen to 1500 different albums in 12 months.

TODAY listened to 4 different albums. Total for 94 days- 604. On pace for 2345.

  • QUEEN: A NIGHT AT THE OPERA: 1975: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: The album that really broke Queen and it is their finest album. “You’re My Best Friend” and the iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” are on this one but the entire album is a gem.
  • FRANK SINATRA & DUKE ELLINGTON: FRANCIS A AND EDWARD K.: 1967: 3 STARS OUT OF 5. Two giants of the 20th century together on an album- you’d think it would be spectacular- but it turned out like if an NBA team had James- Curry- Hardin and Durant and were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. Ellington and his band were past their peak when this was made, the album was half standards- half new material and only one song from Ellington. Nothing all that exciting.
  • YUSUF: AN OTHER CUP: 2006: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Yusuf’s aka Cat Stevens first pop album since 1978. I’ve always liked Cat Stevens 70’s work and this fits right in with those great albums.
  • VAN MORRISON: DUETS: REWORKING THE CATALOG: 2015: 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: An entertaining but not an essential album. Van and a partner cover 16 songs from his catalog- guests include Bobby Womack, Natalie Cole, Steve Winwood, Mavis Staples, Van’s daughter Shana and others. Van still sounding good at 70.
