MY LIFE THROUGH MY T-SHIRT COLLECTION- WORLD CUP 1994

IMG_1181

In the summer of 1994 I was once again travelling around the country seeing historic places and going to baseball games. That was the summer that World Cup Soccer came to the United States. I wasn’t at that time a fan- but there was a lot of publicity and hype about the World Cup coming to the United States and I gave some thought to trying to catch a game. In the end I didn’t. Now if the World Cup is ever in the US again and I am alive and able – Quinn and I are planning on hitting a game or two. I caught the football [or as we call it in the US- Soccer} bug in 2003. In recent years I have watched more of it than any other sport. Now if someone had told me that a dozen years ago I would have thought them insane.

I have no idea where I got this World Cup t-shirt. I know it was that summer somewhere on my travels around the United States.

  1. I was living in Washington, DC in 1994 and got to see two of those World Cup games … two of the most exciting games I’ve been to (in any sport) and the fans (especially when we saw games featuring Brazil and Mexico) were the most vibrant and fun crowds. Not so, the Belgians, however … many of whom kept sneaking out to the concourse to smoke and trying not to get caught (they were distressed that there was no smoking allowed at the stadium).
