Today is Bloomsday. On June 4, 1904 the great Irish writer James Joyce chose this date- the date in which he had his first outing with his wife to be Nora Barnacle- as the date in which the events in his landmark novel ‘Ulysses” takes place. The first celebration of Bloomsday- took place in Dublin on the 50th anniversary of the date. Today Bloomsday is celebrated throughout the world with readings, dramatizations and pub crawls and what not. I have the book but have only read sections of it. It is certainly a book that needs concentration, time and patience to read. The book is divided into eighteen sections and is 265,000 words in length. Many consider it the greatest novel ever written.
